Matt

Foreman

When I first applied at Windemuller, I was just looking for a job and some stability. Today, I’m 19 years into a fulfilling career. The only experience I brought with me was pulling wire as a side job for a friend’s business. I enjoyed it and thought getting into electrical services work may be the way for me to go. That same friend also worked at Windemuller at the time and he encouraged me to apply and see what happened.

In addition to on-the-job learning, I completed a four-year apprenticeship program and later received my electrical journeyman license. I grew to the point where I was functioning as a crew lead on some jobs for several years. Around 2017, I started thinking about my next step – specifically, running jobs. Within the year, I ran my first job as a foreman and have been in that role ever since.

My chief responsibilities include communication with the other trades on the job, employee safety, and overseeing supplies – making sure we have what is needed when it’s needed. Generally, I’m leading a crew of four or five guys, and I still put on the tools. Some days that’s digging ditches and installing conduit, on others it might be pulling wire.

Over the course of my career, I’ve also had the opportunity to sign up for out-of-town work and that’s something I really enjoyed – whether traveling to states I’ve never been to or getting to work on some pretty neat projects. One that stands out is climbing and wiring wind turbines on Michigan’s Garden Peninsula in the U.P.

Beyond the career opportunity and growth I’ve had at Windemuller, what I also really appreciate about the company is it is very family focused. They care about us and take care of us very well.
