I remember well when I was interviewed for a job at Windemuller and was concerned about the string of short-term jobs on my resume. That was 1989. This year, I’m celebrating 35 years with the company. Windemuller just fit. I found my forever home.
If there is something new I can learn, I do it. I’m always learning and now also started moving into a teaching/mentoring role. Windemuller has been a great place to work and has always given me an opportunity to grow my career in the electrical field.
Something I really enjoy about Windemuller as an employer is it nurtures the strengths of its employees – empowering us with opportunities to grow in our positions.
In addition to managing the Communications and IT groups, I oversee customer projects, estimate and bid reviews for new projects, and am responsible for the group meeting sales and financial goals. I can’t share my story without giving a shout-out to my awesome team who has helped me be successful. I’m lucky to work with this hard-working and dedicated group of people.
What I appreciate most about Windemuller is it’s almost like a second family. Some of my best friends work here. Also, upper management is very approachable and asks for feedback, listens, and acts on it. As a result, lots of us stick around for the long haul. I’m one of many long-term employees. It’s not just a place to work – it’s a great place to work.
In my nearly 20 years with Windemuller, what I really appreciate is the trust – from top to bottom and vice versa. You know everyone is going to do what needs to be done. It’s a very trusting culture.
“Even though a lot has changed with technology over the decades – and some of the systems I used to work with are now obsolete – the foundation of the work is the same and I enjoy it when I get the chance to teach something to the younger guys working with me. When there is a system that isn’t working, there is a lot of troubleshooting involved – that hasn’t changed. I like when they ask me questions and I can share my experience.”
I really enjoy the atmosphere at Windemuller. It’s true what many other employees say – it feels like a family here. Also, the fact that the company allowed me to grow and develop in this role says a lot about Windemuller as an employer.
“Because I had worked for mom-and-pop shops earlier in my career, initially I was a little intimidated about making the jump to a bigger company like Windemuller. I was worried about being just a number. But it turned out I had nothing to worry about. This place feels like family and I enjoy working here – it’s a good group of people.”
” People here take pride in their work and really work to hone their craft. Senior management are actively engaged in the day-to-day grind operations of the organization. They strive to be people-focused and work to ensure that our mission and values aren’t just posters on the wall.”
“While Windemuller is a large company, it feels very personable. When you have questions or are dealing with a situation you’ve never dealt with before, there is always someone to sit down with and talk it over. And it doesn’t stop there. It is a real family at Windemuller. People care about you, and your family. There are interactive wellness challenges, company family outings, and an emphasis on safety programs, which really stress being able to go home to your family every night.”
As my technical abilities increased, the company continued to encourage and help me obtain multiple other IT-related certifications. I knew I was ready for the next step in my career and was promoted to Windemuller’s first ever technical systems engineer position.
“What I ended up really liking was – rather than just being told what to do and doing it — I got to be part of troubleshooting an issue. It was a lot more hands-on. I learned what we were doing, why we were doing it, and what was going to happen when we were done.”
“One of the things I really appreciate at Windemuller is the flexibility it offers. This comes from the different systems I work with to the many companies I service. There are also a lot of opportunities for growth and to further develop my skills through new certifications and educational options.”
“Windemuller is really a good company that keeps you around. I started at the bottom and have worked my way up. Windemuller gives you all the chances in the world to prove yourself.”
“Working at Windemuller has been a great learning experience. The size and reach of this company mean that you get to learn from so many different people who do so many different things, and who bring so many different experiences and pieces of knowledge to the table. I feel fortunate that I get to take all of that and apply it to my own career journey.”
“From day one, I fell in love with the way this company does business. From ethics to safety to company culture, Windemuller felt like home.”
“I’ve noticed over the years is that, while Windemuller is a big company, it doesn’t feel like one. Previously I had worked at smaller companies, but they didn’t have the tight-knit company culture that drives Windemuller. This business does a really good job of maintaining a family-like feel among its employees. Windemuller is a team of real people.”
“I love my Windemuller team and am proud to be a part of it. From the top down, this company feels like family. Knowing that I can go to anyone in any department and ask for help – and that they will drop whatever they’re doing to lend a hand – that’s an amazing feeling.”
“I’m so grateful that Windemuller rehired me, and that I was able to fall back into place with my old team, without missing a beat. I’d missed having that camaraderie that we had – that feeling that we were a family and could tackle anything together, so long as we did it as a team.”
“I am passionate about opening doors and sharing my experiences for the next person in line, and I’ve found those opportunities at Windemuller, too.
“Windemuller is the first place I’ve worked in my career where I’ve felt 100 percent dedication from the ownership to keeping employees Safe.”
“Beyond the diversity of work and the places my job with Windemuller has taken me, there are two things about this company that have always impressed me. One is Windemuller’s commitment to safety, which is second to none and which always makes me feel like I’m in good hands. The second is the amount of trust Windemuller has for their employees.”
“I’ve been here less than two years, but I’ve already witnessed so much of what makes this company special. The leadership shows so much trust and faith in their employees, and that confidence allows our team to grow and thrive in ways that are truly unique.”
“This company, being smaller than the one I used to work for, is more personal and more family-oriented than anywhere I’ve ever worked. You’re not just a number at Windemuller, but always a valued member of the team.”
“I was a teenager in the summer of 1994 when I started my first job for Windemuller. At that time, my grandpa, uncles, and dad were all involved in the business in various roles. I worked out in the warehouse of the company’s Grandville office, handling lawn maintenance, and taking on other assorted odd jobs.”
“I enjoy being part of a team, collaborating closely with my colleagues to build something we can all be proud of. There’s so much personal interaction and engagement with this job, and it’s just the kind of fulfilling work environment I dreamed of …”
“Windemuller is like a family, where everyone is happy to help one another and where the older, more experienced pros are always willing to turn around and help the next person in line.”
“We help each other discover and realize our goals. We explore other departments until we find the right fit. We promote from within. And we make sure that where you start out isn’t where you need to stay, so long as you’re willing to work hard.”
“Windemuller is the first company I’ve ever worked for that has really prioritized my interest in bettering myself and developing new knowledge and skills.”
“My colleagues aren’t just my coworkers, but some of my best friends. My bosses are as supportive as I could ever hope for workplace supervisors at work to be, always helping me grow and push outside of my comfort zone. And the work is fun, challenging, and dynamic, with each day and each project offering its own unique journey.“
“From day one, Windemuller has been as good to me as I could imagine an employer being: they are fair, they are flexible, and they are incredibly supportive.”
