Fresh Controls for Fruit
- Design-build for new cherry dryers
- Updated antiqued controls, switches and push buttons
- Modern PLC and HMI system put into place
Overview
Smeltzer Orchard is a northern Michigan based agri-business that produces fruit products such as cherries, cranberries, blueberries and much more for distribution across the globe. Windemuller completed a design build project for the orchard which included updating the antiquated push button and switch controls to a new, more modern PLC and HMI system. These upgrades were designed for Smeltzer’s cherry dryers, which are used consistently throughout the year, except for a short window during the summer months.
To eliminate downtime, our team was given a small timeframe to complete the upgrade, which also included running new wiring, retrofitting the new control panel, and connecting all the field wiring to the panel. The Windemuller electrical and automation teams worked side by side to efficiently and expertly complete the task at hand. The teamwork and ongoing communication between departments resulted in a successful project outcome and satisfied customer.
