Shining Light on Soaring Eagle
For more than two decades, Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort (SECR) has served as a top destination in Mt. Pleasant with features that cater to everyone. SECR was ready to revamp their space with upgrades to their 500+ guest rooms and numerous amenities including meeting rooms, fitness center, guest bathrooms, back of the house areas, general areas, and the pool/spa area. Windemuller was eager to partner with the resort to tackle the vast electrical portion of this two-yearlong project.
Overview
Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, built in 1998, is a resort based in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan that offers amenities including gaming tables and slot machines, a pool area, restaurants, a game room, kid’s play areas, and a salon and spa. Windemuller was entrusted with providing new electrical throughout the resort and for the more than 500 guest rooms, including the luxurious presidential and governors’ suites.
The guest rooms were equipped with new electrical systems, additional circuits to every room, Smart System Crestron Lighting Controls, state-of-the-art user interfaces, modern lighting fixtures and an all-new design aesthetic. Other areas of the resort featured cutting-edge controls, interfaces, touch panel lighting controls and new decorative ceiling panels.
The Challenge
Windemuller kicked off this project with a very aggressive schedule. Since Soaring Eagle was an active, fully functioning casino and resort, our team was required to coordinate construction during hours of operation and around the guests. Within the first couple of months, we were all faced with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused delays and major adjustments to the project’s timeline, availability of materials and schedule.
Working space and on-site storage was limited, which meant our crews would need to execute just-in-time material management. This was a main priority for our team, due to the fact that this could block the progress of other trades on the project. The electrical materials and delivery time would need to be measured precisely to ensure maximum efficiency.
The Solution
As a result of Windemuller’s advanced planning and in-house prefabrication department, we were able to simultaneously complete the prep work, while also utilizing our kitting process. This process ensured each guest room had the appropriate material in the exact amounts needed. Precise time management and communication tools, including internal tracking systems, kept the team organized and ensured the project’s success.
Although our team committed to a fast-paced schedule for a job of this scale, careful planning ensured we had the right amount of manpower to complete this project successfully. Despite delays from the pandemic, our team stayed on task and completed multiple room block turnover dates on or ahead of schedule and the project as a whole was finished just in time for the 2021 holiday season.
